Est-ce que les gens voient que tu es métisse ? Leur arrive t-ils de te donner une autre origine que la tienne ? Quelles sont leur réaction quand ils le savent ?
Non ils ne voient pas que je suis métisse, ils pensent souvent que je suis maghrébine, ou que je viens des îles ou d’Amérique latine.
Quand ils savent mes origines, ils trouvent ça marrant, original.
Tu es attiré par quel genre de personnes dans ta vie amoureuse ? Dans ta vie amicale ?
Je viens d’un milieu populaire, je côtoie des gens de toutes les origines. En amour, je suis sortie principalement avec des français. Mon premier amour était métissé Antillo-Espagnol.
Que préfères-tu dans tes cultures ? Qu’est ce que tu aimes le moins ?
En Sicile, j’aime la chaleur humaine, l’affection est prédominante dans la famille. Le manque d’ouverture d’esprit me gêne, ils ne connaissent pas les autres cultures. Ils ont aussi un côté macho, mâle dominant.
Aux Antilles, la chaleur humaine est différente. L’aspect festif et communautaire est très important. J’aime moins le racisme contre la communauté blanche.
As-tu voyagé ? Où ? Quel pays aimerais-tu visiter et pourquoi?
Je vais tous les ans en Martinique. Je suis allée en Sicile trois fois. J’ai été aussi au Mexique, Etats-Unis. J’ai été expatriée au Maroc, on me prenait pour une magrébine là bas.
J’aimerais beaucoup aller au Vietnam, ma grand-mère y est restée cinq ans, elle m’en a beaucoup parlé. J’aimerais aussi retourner en Sicile pour découvrir plus les gens.
Qu’est ce que tu apprends aux gens qui ne connaissent pas ta culture ?
Pendant la période de Noël aux Antilles, tout le monde se réunit. C’est une période très importante. Il y a les chants religieux en créole, les palmiers, la chaleur, c’est un Noël vraiment différent de celui en Europe.
Comment te vois tu ?
Je me sens française mais avec une culture martiniquaise prédominante.

Do people see you’re half breed? Do they give you another origin than yours? What are their reactions when they know about it?
No they don’t see it. They think I come from Maghreb, the West Indies or South America. When they acknowledge it, they find it amusing, original.
What kind of persons are attracted to in your relationships? (friends and lovers)
I come from a modest background, so my friends come from all around the world. I dated mostly French men. My first love was half West Indian, half Spanish.
What do you prefer in your cultural background? What do you like less?
In Sicilia, I like the people’s warmth, affection is important is the family. The lack of interest in other cultures bothers me. They also have this manly, sexist attitude I don’t like.
In the West Indies, the warmth is different. It’s about gathering and partying. I’m not too fond of the racism against white people on the island.
Have you travelled? Where? Is there a country you would like to visit and why ?
I go every year in Martinique. I’ve been in Sicilia three times. I’ve been also in Mexico, USA. I lived in Morocco, the locals thought I was one of them.
I’d really like to go to Vietnam, my grand mother stayed five years and talks about it a lot. I’d also like to go back to Sicilia to know more about the people there.
What do you share about your culture that people don’t know about?
At Christmas time, we gather in the West Indies to sing religious songs in Creole. The heat, the palm trees and the singing make this Christmas very different from the one celebrated in Europe.
How do you see yourself?
I feel French with a dominant West Indies culture.
